Announcing Theme for our 11th Girlfriend Weekend Author Extravaganza, TIARA WEARING and STORY SHARING!

Dear Pulpwood Queens, Timber Guys and READERS EVERYWHERE!
Next year, always the THIRD WEEKEND in January 2011, will mark the 11th year of our Girlfriend Weekend Author Extravaganza!
In keeping with our forever mission of promoting literacy our OFFICIAL THEME will be TIARA WEARING AND STORY SHARING! This year it will be all about the STORY!
This year I am asking ALL members to contribute a story of your favorite Pulpwood Queen book reading memory so I can put them all together in a book. This can be about a book you have read, a book club meeting, a girlfriend weekend experience, community, friendship, a recipe, whatever! This is YOUR book club so let's let the world know that the Pulpwood Queens and yes, Timber Guys are on a mission to promote authors, books, reading, all while having some BIG TIME FUN! The deadline will be soon so let's get to work writing that story and send it to me at kathy@beautyandthebook.com.
Our "GREAT BIG BALL of HAIR" Ball theme will be your chapters favorite story book! Email me the book you are selecting to represent so we will not have repeats. I am selecting for my group, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee. What fun we can have with this? I am picturing "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell, or perhaps "South of Broad" by Pat Conroy, or"Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" by Jamie Ford, and perhaps even Melissa Conroy's "Poppy's Pants"! Have fun with the theme and your table decorating can complete the scene of the book! It's all about the story this year and Friday night we are going to have a TALENT SHOW! Each chapter is to contribute a skit, a song, whatever, you can do to share YOUR STORY!
Here are our books for 2010 so far to give you a heads up on this years reads!

Our home website is www.beautyandthebook.com and my email is kathy@beautyandthebook.com if you ever need me. Follow along on my literary promoting escapades at www.pulpwoodqueen.com with photos and sometimes videos too!

So we have ONE YEAR to plan this event and I assure you, I work on this event 365 days a year to bring the best of authors, books, reading, and promoting literacy to all of YOU! Pass the word and let's bring it on for literacy this coming year! Adopt a project and contribute that with your story!
Now the photo above is on all that attended the wonderful, wonderful Writer's Workshop lead by author, Linda Busby Parker at the beginning of Girlfriend Weekend out at Shepherd's Pasture, a non-denominational Christian retreat just perfect for this kind of event.
We want to hold another one this year so if you are interested, email me at kathy@beautyandthebook.com. I would love to have Linda back and the Writer's League of Texas is interested in starting Writer's Retreats here as well.
Also for recap feature stories on this year's 2010 Girlfriend Weekend go to:
www.southernauthors.blogspot.com by author, Susan Cushman
www.readinggroupguides.com by author, Ad Hudler
We also made Shelf Awareness TODAY and Jamie Ford's blog got posted in the TEXAS PAGES SECTION of The Dallas Morning News, please comment on Michael Mershel's posting of that feature!
Running with scissors as usual. Jay is home from hospital and still recovering. Paul Newman, our Siamese cat has a cold as is recovering from getting locked out of the house during Girlfriend Weekend. Will continue to baby my babies. Life goes on and as far as I am concerned just another page in my story! You know it's all about the story my friends. And to quote my favorite quote of all time: "The world is made up of stories, not atoms" by Muriel Rukheyser so I will continue mine! Won't you join me?
Tiara wearing and Story sharing,
