Dear Readers,
Every morning I look forward to with anticipation reading the daily literary blog, Shelf Awareness. One of the features they have is to select an author to answer and present always the same questions. Here are the categories below that I have filled in and now it's YOUR TURN!
Please comment and let's share our answers because you know what. Sharing your answers helps us get to know each other better. I would like to keep this going until the rest of the month. Who's with me!
Book Brahmin: Kathy L. Patrick
Kathy L. Patrick is the author of "The Pulpwood Queens' Tiara Wearing, Book Sharing Guide to Life", Grand Central Publishing. She is also the founder of the Pulpwood Queens and Timber Guys Book Clubs, the largest "meeting and discusssing" book club in the world and owns, runs, and operates the ONLY Hair Salon/Book Store in the COSMOS! Her husband, Jaybird is in a band called Destiny Duke and the Hazzards. She was past president of the Jefferson Rotary Club and now Literary Chair. On your nightstand now:
"The Sweet By and By by Todd Johnson who I met at the Decatur Book Festival Author V.I.P. party introduced by author, Kerry Madden who wrote the book above, "Up Close: Harper Lee" and who I am valiantly campaigning for both coming to our 10th Anniversary Girlfriend Weekend Author Extravaganza, January 13 - 17, 2010. Todd I must also mention is a vision for any one who can spot a fashion trend setter. His sherbert orange jacket made him a Pulpwood Queen favorite for the A Hot Pink and Leopard Carpet list! I can hardly wait to see what Todd will wear on our Happy 50th Birthday Barbie Fashion Show featuring all our authors at Girlfriend Weekend!

Favorite book when you were a child:
"Honestly Katie John" by Mary Calhoun, first real book that turned me on to reading and yes, this story is all in my book.

but those are just a few of the gems in my rhinestone tiara! For a full listing of ALL my crown jewels of reading, check out my lists of authors in my book. They are all there and just too numerous to mention!
Book you've bought for the cover:

Book that changed your life:
The first adult book I checked out of the upstairs of the Eureka Carnegie Library in Eureka, Kansas, "Breakfast of Champions". I remember thinking that books were the best entertainment in the wholewide world. I reread it when I wrote my book and was scandalized that I read this book so young. But then again, it turned me on to adult reading.

Favorite line from a book:
This is the latest in years and years of favorite lines from Pat Conroy and this time in his latest "South of Broad". I am paraphasing here, as I don't have the book at hand. When the main character, Leo, is giving this old cratchity codger a pedicure as part of his community service, he states, "let me dry your feet with my hair, kind of a Mary Magdalene moment".

Book you most want to read again for the first time:
"To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee or perhaps "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver but that's today, yesterday it probably would have been, "The Rich Part of Life" by Jim Kokoris and tomorrow perhaps, "Big Fish" by Daniel Wallace. Notice how I try to get in more of my favorite reads!

Tiara wearing and Book sharing,
Kathy L. Patrick
Author of "The Pulpwood Queens' Tiara Wearing, Book Sharing Guide to Life"!
P.S. Marsha Toy Engstrom the Book Club Cheerleader just forwarded me her literacy intiative endeavors from The PUlpwood Queens in the Hood in California! Won't you share your literacy endeavors too! See photo above of her chapter!
Community involvement for the Pulpwood Queens of Woodland CA, AKA: Readers in the Hood (RITH) began, in the manner of all “Hoodie” activities, as a FUN event. For our first Christmas gathering in 2003, we organized a gift exchange—but, instead of purchasing gifts for one another, each member bought a toy that matched the personality or interests of the ’Hoodie’ whose name she had drawn. After opening the gifts and laughing over the appropriate choices—everything from a bikini-clad Barbie for our neighborhood “hottie” to a giant stuffed dog for the owner of the noisy neighborhood puppy—we donated the toys to Toys for Tots. The next year, we decided that in addition to a toy, each Hoodie would also donate a copy of her favorite children’s Christmas book.
The practice has continued through the years with slight variations in the types of books selected and the organizations to which we donate them. Recipients have included a local hospital, the Woodland Literacy Program and, in 2008, Noah’s Ark Preschool. In fact, this past year, in line with our “over the top” philosophy, the Hoodies showed up for our holiday gathering with armfuls of children’s books that were then donated to the above-mentioned preschool. Several of the Hoodies attended the presentation of the books and related heartwarming stories of how thrilled the children were with the donations—to the point of some “infighting” for first peek at some of the more popular titles!
The Hoodies are consistently involved in numerous charitable activities, ranging from participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to providing Thanksgiving donations to a local food closet. But activities associated with reading remain closest to our hearts. For three consecutive years, we have sponsored a Readers in the Hood table at the Sacramento Authors’ Luncheon which benefits the National Kidney Foundation. When our local library was recently threatened with a severe reduction in hours due to city budget deficits, we campaigned actively—and successfully—to keep the library open for at least 40 hours a week. Because reading has played such an important and positive part in our own lives, we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has access to the same opportunity and privilege.

Like you, I've read thousands of books. These answers are the first thing that pops into my head! If I ponder my answers, I'll be up all night!!
Fav.child book- I thought "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett was magical!
Authors- Rebecca Wells, Pat Conroy, Patti C. Henry, Adriana Trigiani, John Jakes
Your book cover caught my eye...a group of ladies dressed in leopard-print and tiaras reading books and having fun!
"Gone with the Wind" changed my life as it began my fascination with the South. Did I tell you I want to be a Southerner when I grow up??!!
This comes to mind...I just finished "the Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy" by Robert Leleux and
his diva-like mother said "Going to work just ruins the whole day!" It gave me the giggles...
I'd like to read "South of Broad" again for the first time. My first Pat Conroy book...I'll never forget that breathless, heart-pounding, mesmirizing sense of AWE!!!
