The Pulpwood Queen attends CD Release Party at Music City Texas!

Dear Readers,

You may have heard this story a kazillion times but back in the 70's I attended a concert for The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and Dan Fogleberg. I was on a blind date and we doubledated with my dates older brother and his girlfriend. We sat in in the nosebleed section. That concert was I thought at the time the most incredible concert I had ever been too but then years later I got to view from killer seats Don Henley and Richard Bowden & the Starz at Music City Texas. You all there are no bad seats and as far as concerts are concerned, never will you get a better view of some of your favorite artists!.

Flash forward to a couple years ago, Richard Bowden, President of Music City Texas, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, became Head King with his wife, Karen, Head Queen, of The Pulpwood Queens of Linden, Texas. Richard Bowden grew up with Don Henley, in fact, played with his first band, The Four Speeds, where now Music City Texas stands. He also played lead guitar for Linda Ronstadt and was on stage that night many, many years ago as I used borrowed binoculars to view all the musical artists. Oh, the wonderful places books take you and the people books bridge connections with, life long friends.

If someone would have told me that I would someday be buddies with Richard Bowden and his band, The Moon & the Starz, I would have said, "Get out of here." But we are friends, and such good friends they invited me and my husband, Jay, to their NEW CD Release Party.

I have posted photos from that event and now trying to convince that Richard needs to write a book of all his stories on the road with all these amazing artists. He makes Marshall Chapman's, "Good Bye Little Rock and Roller", seem tame in comparison. I have heard the stories and I laugh to myself each time I hear him tell the shaving cream incident story.

Life is about relationships, the stories, and for me reading, books, make those connections that nothing else in this world can. Read a book. Listen to some good music. You never know, maybe someday you'll hang out with one of your favorite musical artists in the world! I know I just did.

We had some terrific food at the event, notice table of food was hit pretty hard. I got my CD and poster signed plus bought a bag load of t-shirts for my family to wear. You see the Moon & the Starz also hold a special spot in my heart as they volunteered to play at my REGRAND OPENING and played at last years Girlfriend Weekend.

Go to www.mytexasmusic.com to order your CD's TODAY plus t-shirts and more. Also don't forget to get your tickets to see Hal Ketchum, tomorrow, Saturday night as I have already caught his show once at Music City Texas and he puts on a great show. See below for more on that. Check that out at their official website, www.musiccitytexas.org

The Moon & the Starz also have a my space account at http://www.myspace.com/moonandthestarz for more on the band and to hear songs from their latest CD. The Moon & the Starz also play at Music City Texas the first Saturday of each month. So what are you waiting for, come to East Texas to visit Beauty and the Book and Music City Texas. You'll create some great memories just like mine!

The Pulpwood Queen is all about BOOKS!

Dear Readers,

For those of you that do not know this, I own and operate the ONLY Hair Salon/Book Store in the country, maybe in the world called Beauty and the Book! I love doing hair and I love talking books. Beauty and the Book combines two of my passions and to be quite frank, the hair business is good but the book business has almost come to a screeching halt.

So next time you are thinking about maybe buying a book, would you think about supporting my business. I welcome you with open arms and right now I have a large variety of signed books including:
Leading Ladies by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison
The Chicken Dance by Jacques Couvillion
Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy by Robert LeLeux
Singing and Dancing Daughters of God by Timothy Schaffert
Making Waves in Zion by Cassandra King Ray
The Kabul Beauty School by Debbie Rodriguez
The Camel Bookmobile by Masha Hamilton
Grub by Elise Blackwell
The Unnatural History of Cypress Parish by Elise Blackwell
Electroboy by Andy Behrman
Jim Limber Davis: A Black Orphan in the Confederate White House by Rickey Pittman
Stories of the Confederate South by Rickey Pittman
Around the World in the Middle Seat: How I Saw the World (and Survived!) as a Group Travel Leader by Joyce Brooks
Seven Before Seventy: One Woman's Quest for the Seven Continents by Joyce Brooks
Juliette Ascending by R.Poole-Carter
What Remains by R.Poole-Carter
Women of Magdalene by Rosemary Poole-Carter

So summer is almost here, plan a trip to Beauty and the Book and if the gas prices are keeping you close to home, I ship books as we accept all major credit cards.

Have a fantabulous Memorial Weekend and remember this little ole independent bookstore/hair salon believes that everybody that graces my doors should be treated like a King or Queen. I would much rather shop where somebody appreciates and acknowledges my business.

As an added bonus, for each purchase made in my shop will enter you into a monthly drawing for a Pulpwood Queen membership or Pulpwood Queen Hot Pink T-shirt for the ladies or a Timber Guy Black T-shirt for the guys. I will be posting the winners name on this blog site. The Pulpwood Queens Book Club of which I am the founder is on a mission to get people reading in a big way, one book, one author, one person at a time!

Come join our book loving fun and enjoy the enticing photos of my shop and all the many book selections!

P.S. SPECIAL NOTE: Foam Rubber Productions is having a Launch Party TODAY for Richard Bowden with the Moon & the Starz for their debut CD release "Rising Over Texas". Partial proceeds go to Music City Texas Theater. Pulpwood Queens, this is the band that played last year at our annual Pulpwood Queen Girlfriend Weekend. Richard Bowden is the President of Music City Texas Theater and grew up with Don Henley. He played at this same building as a youth with Don with a band called The Four Speeds. I actually have a tape of those early recordings, what a hoot! But at the same time, what TALENT!
I'll brag on Richard for a while since he went on to play lead guitar with such greats as Linda Ronstadt, was part of the comedy team Pickard & Bowden, and now him and his wife our Head King and Queens of The PUlpwood Queens of Linden, Texas. Talk about promoting literacy in a big and fun way!
So if you want to purchase one of these CD's or a Moon & the Starz t-shirt, contact Richard Bowden at www.musiccitytexas.org.
Next weekend they are hosting Hal Ketchum and June 20, 21, 22, for the 3rd Annual T-Bone Walker Blues Fest and they even have Delbert McClinton coming just 15 minutes from Beauty and the Book in Linden, Texas. I'll have a full report tomorrow!

The Pulpwood Queens' Future Burning BRIGHT!

Dear Readers,

I am just beaming! My youngest daughter, Madeleine Alexandrite Patrick, (cute brunette with an attitude), just graduated from the 8th grade. I thought I was one proud momma when she came home earlier with a perfect score on the Texas Taks Reading test but seeing your child graduate is a milestone in parenthood, one where I promised myself I would not cry, but did anyway.

Here are a few photos taken of her band concert and graduation of her, her teacher Ms. Howard, grandparents, dad, my sister, Karen, her sister, Lainie,, and with her friends and family. The last photo taken at top of page was her response to getting a stuffed fuzzy chicken dressed in graduation gown that played Pomp and Circumstance and The Chicken Dance. I find it a priceless photo of her with her big sister, Lainie. Hard to take photos when you are tearing up from laughter and the ache of my little girl is all grown up, so excuse my amateur photography.

Next up my oldest daughter, Helaina Amethyst Patrick, is graduating from Jefferson High School, #5 in the Top Ten of her graduating class. I have now expanding my working hours to compensate for excruciating expense of college. Stay tuned for more on that.

Anyway busting at the seams here with pride, no wait, that's more from all the weight gain of six years writing my book, ha ha ha!

Anyway, signing off as "My Life as an Open Book",
