The Pulpwood Queen says "VOTE"!

Dear Readers,
Sending this message then headed out the door to VOTE! Was planning on voting before I headed in to work but my husband discovered as he left to do exactly that same thing that someone had hit one of our dogs last night and it had died. Yes, Phantom of the Opera has gone on to a dog's happy hunting grounds. He was a swell dog that was dumped at our house some time back. All white with a half black face, he was always the first one to greet me when I came home and the first one to see me off to work. I will miss his smiling face greatly.

But it's onward and upward book soldiers as now in full swing of our Books Alive this weekend. The full program is below and I just sent it on in a massive email blast around the country.

But first here are some things of interest from Publisher's Lunch this morning. Bad news for Barnes and Noble and then some bestseller lists. Do notice that I have highlighted Pulpwood Queen Book Club Selections in RED for READ by our book club! (See below).

Out the door to VOTE!

Riggio: Prepare for A "Terrible Holiday Season"
The WSJ reproduced an in-house memo to Barnes & Noble employees sent last week bychairman Len Riggio: "Never in all of the years I've been in business have I seen a worse outlook for the economy. And never in all my years as a bookseller have I seen a retail climate as poor as the one we are in. Nothing even close." He warns, "we are bracing for a terrible holiday season, and expect the trend to continue well into 2009, and perhaps beyond."Riggio announces that "new store openings will be curtailed greatly, and discretionary expenditures will be cut to the bone," though at the same time "we will not be making Draconian cuts in capital spending."At the same time, he assures that the company's financial foundation is solid: "We still intend to pay out a $50 million dividend to our shareholders this year. In addition, we have a solid balance sheet, excellent standing with the banking community, and more importantly, a large line of unused credit to draw upon. And, even with this year's large sales shortfall, we will make a decent profit, and end the year without owing a penny to our banks."Full memo at WSJArticle

Kathy Joy Bell

Kathy with her husband
Kathy Joy Bell was born in Somerset, Kentucky. She was raised in the small town of Pine Knot, which is located in southeastern Kentucky. She practically came out of the womb singing and was delighted to have an older sister who would accompany her on the piano when she sang in church. She received piano instruction for 11 years until leaving home to attend the University of Kentucky. At UK, Kathy was accepted as a piano performance major, but decided instead to pursue a career in the mental health field.
In 1994, Kathy graduated from UK with a BA in Psychology. She subsequently began her graduate studies at Seattle Pacific University in 1996. During this time, she began to attend church again and to pray that God would reveal himself to her more deeply. She also began to pray that God would bring music back into her life. God began to answer her prayers in 1997 by inspiring her first song. He also answered her prayers by leading her to Western Seminary Seattle (Now called Mars Hill Graduate School), where she would complete a Master's in Counseling. Kathy left seminary with a growing hunger for God. Songs began to pour out of her soul as God continued to deal with her heart on deeper and deeper levels.
In 2000, Kathy returned home to Kentucky. In 2001, God's call on her life became more complete as she met and married her soul mate, Andrew Bell. Together, they committed their life to God’s call.
By 2002, Kathy could not hold back any longer. She longed to share her testimony with others through music. In September, she took the first step by signing a recording contract with the former GMT Records. In January 2003, Kathy’s first project, simply titled, Kathy Bell, was released.
On July 14, 2004, a beautiful daughter, Andrea Joy, was born. Andrea would complete their blended family of five. Kathy and Andy would welcome a new daughter and Joshua and Megan would welcome a new sister.
Kathy has released 3 projects and several songs to radio. Her music has been heard on Christian Country, Southern Gospel, and Contemporary Christian stations. She continues to carry out her call to sing and write about the Lord with increasing passion. Through song, she continues to share the hope of Christ with others.

EVERY ONE DIES IN UTAH! – Christian, screamo, experimental rock band from Temple, Texas.

EVERTHORN- With Christian rock and post hardcore bands on the rise, Texas has been overflowing with talent, Everthorn is one such band from central Texas. Taking inspiration from various influences, Everthorn has become a modern rock band with marketable choruses and a screaming passion about their message. The guitars sing melodies and thrash riffs while the drums synchronize with pulsing beats and technical fills. "We write our music trying to keep everyone in mind so that everyone can get something." After a year of intense writing and playing shows when not practicing, Everthorn finally found the time to begin recording their CD with Mark Drury from Nashville Tennessee. The album titled "O Cain, Your Brother Loves You" is a diverse album with over a year of work put into it. "We are very proud of the outcome..."The word "love" is used so much that it could be considered cliche to use in an album title, but Everthorn hopes to exemplify a true God-like love. With this in mind, the band chose Cain, the first murderer from the Bible who killed his own brother as an example of how far God's love can reach. "We hope that people can relate with Cain and know that God as well as us love them no matter what," band member Elijah says.

Released on April 5th, 2008 Everthorn hopes to find a great response and is planning their first national tour on the west coast this summer. On stage, Everthorn shares their love for Christ through a unique show with insane energy and professionalism. "It's and exciting atmosphere. Creating the album has been fun and we hope everyone can come out and experience it with us."This is only the beginning...
