Why I am on a mission to promote literacy! (continued)

Dear Readers,
More photos from where I live in the Piney woods, and these homes are not too far from my shop. You can click on them to see them up close and I assure you, folks are living in these homes. More to come.....

A person's living condition does not always indicate whether or not they are literate.

A home without books is just empty!

Ladygrande,
You are absolutely right. What I was trying to show is even though Jefferson is known as the bed & breakfast capital of Texas, the "Belle of the Bayou", that at the same time we have extreme poverty and illiteracy in our county. Granted those living in these homes may be fine readers, these are not the finest of homes or the worst by far. Those are yet to come.
One woman I gave a ride home to the other day did not have running water or electricity. She gave me a note with a name and phone number of who to call, if I wanted to reach her. She could not read it.
This is America. I just wanted to show people we have some work to do in our own backyards and neck of the woods. Stay tuned for more photos as they will bring the full picture into view.
Thanks for writing and I could not agree more on everything you said. I am just trying to figure out what to do about this alarming illiteracy rate and degrees of extreme poverty within our county.
