Dear readers,
I live in a beautiful historic town, Jefferson, Texas, considered the "Belle of the Bayou", once an inland port city on the Red River system. We have over 100 homes with historical Texas markers, museums, riverboat rides, steam train rides, horse drawn carriages, it's a town I call "Mayberry on the Bayou". I love living here. And knowing all of this you cannot imagine how upset I became when our Head Librarian at the Jefferson Carnegie Library, in speaking to my Jefferson Rotary Club, informed us that Marion County, in which I live, has a 39% of adult illiteracy.
To bring awareness to my cause for promoting reading and literacy, please watch this week as daily I will be postings photographs I have captured, many just blocks from my shop, Beauty and the Book. They say a picture says a thousand words, then view it and weep! Won't you join my book club and help promote reading and literacy. I would love to hear from you so please comment on this blog site.
