The Pulpwood Queens own "Thelma and Louise" featured on www.backstoryontheradio.com

Now didn't I tell you that BACKSTORY was gonna rock this month? Well, 'tis.

Just check out Saturday's guests - yes, they're  buddies, side-kicks, sometimes co-write a few words together and sense is - get into a whole lotta trouble on occasion just like Thelma and Louise.

And, since Saturday's show is brought to you by the word, Trouble - even more befitting that we tune in with these wild women to talk novel writing, songwriting, the power of the story, and the magic of a good road trip!

Now, Melanie Wells (who I think is the Louise of the two) has a new novel that has just hit shelves this week in bookstores and one that I'm fortunate enough to be holding and reading - My Soul to Keep, a novel of suspense and a page turner. We'll talk to Melanie about the writing process and what keeps her going, inspires, about both the art and business of writing and geez - does she get the creeps writing scenes that are, well, creepy?

A native of the Texas panhandle, Melanie Wells is a licensed therapist, business owner, musician and author of the critically acclaimed Dylan Foster trilogy of psychological thrillers

Her debut psychological thriller, 'When The Day of Evil Comes' was released in 2005 and sold more than 25,000 copies in the first six months. 'The Soul Hunter' her subsequent book, followed in 2006. Her newest book, 'My Soul To Keep,' will be published Feb. 5, 2008, from Multnomah Books, a division of Random House.

Wells currently lives and writes in Dallas.

And then we'll sit in with Trish Murphy (the Thelma of the two) as she dishes a bit on songwriting, preforming, and how the art of writing a song is the art of telling the story. We'll also listen to some of her songs including - 'The Trouble with Trouble' and 'Just like Thelma and Louise'.

For Austin'sTrish Murphy it's been a stormy ride between records. But sometimes the pain makes you stronger and that is certainly the case with her splendid new release, Girls Get In Free. With a new found confidence, Murphy unleashes ten new songs filled with passion and charm as well as a tantalizing and rowdy duet with Austin heart throb Bob Schneider on Lyle Lovett's 'Cowboy Man.'

And - we'll let both these partners in crime talk about the process of creative collaboration, and how they just returned from that wild party thrown in Texas called the Pulpwood Queens Girlfriend Weekend where they sang, played, read, and told the truth - mostly.

And as always more Great Music, Great Stories, and Great Company - so tune in for a Saturday show of intrigue, inspiration, and entertainment.

Thanks for all the emails from listeners far and wide and a special hello to the writing group and BACKSTORY listeners down in Oxford, MS - (must be the water in that place) -The Yoknapatawpha Writers. (They have a little deal, every time someone gets published, they have to buy a round for the group. Well, of course you can make sweet iced tea your choice if you are fond of (or are too, too, fond-) of strong drink!
