Dear Reader,
As we arrived at Watermark's Bookstore & Cafe in Wichita, Kansas I was overwhelmed getting out of our Texas Cadillac, our silver Suburban to see women too arriving by the car loads wearing tiaras. I walked in and the place was packed with women sitting in chairs all to here me talk about my book. I could not believe it! The owner, Sarah greeted me and escorted me to the front to give me a fabulous introduction. As I looked out into the sea of faces I spotted some friends from my hometown Eureka, Jean Burke and her daughter, Michelle who I use to teach Sunday School and who was in my youth group. Michele is now a teacher which blows my mind! Where did the time go?
I think my book talk went over well and then went right into the big hair makeover. Sonja, a woman from Eldorado won that honor and as you can see from the photos, we gave her some really big hair. Then a precious little woman told me she always wanted to have big hair so I gave her some big hair too! That's Elizabeth I am loving on at a young 86 years old! Also see photo with author Beverley Buller who wrote this amazing book on William Allen White for children that I am making a bonus Pulpwood Queen Book Club Selection!
We then had the booksigning and the store sold out of books! I then hauled in the two cases that I brought just in case, GONE! They are ordering more to send to me to sign then send back. I would have to say Watermark's really knows how to put on a book event! I signed their author wall of fame along with David Small, Tomi de Paola, and more! Watermark's then treated The Pulpwood Queens and all my Eureka friends to some great coffeee and this amazing cake! We were all laughing and catching up on years of not seeing each other when Sarah approached us saying, "I hate to tell you this but it is closing time!" Yikes! 5:30 p.m. and my part was suppose to be over at 4:00! I bow to the feet of Sarah, Beth, and all the wonderful staff of from what I can tell a pretty incredible bookstore. Biggest event so far and did we sell some books! So read below some more on last night and love to hear your comments. Thanks too to all my hometown friends who drove over for the events! You are the best and you all there is no place like home, there's no place like HOME!
Tiara wearing and book sharing,
Kathy L. Patrick
